When I was 22

I was 22, and desperate to buy my first home.  I still remember the day.  It was an Auction 2pm Saturday. An older style unit in a street named Lyndhurst Crescent in Hawthorn Melbourne.  One week earlier the Reserve Bank had just raised interest rates and home loans were approx. 8% and rising.  I was super nervous, my palms were sweaty and my heart was racing.  I was the only bidder, the Auctioneer pulled a bid or two from the trees as they used to do. I placed one bid at $170,000 and it was SOLD.  At the time I questioned what I had just done, I had instant buyer’s remorse but of course I was in and there was no turning around.  Now looking back it was one of the best days of my life.  Just over 2 years later I re sold the same property for $350K more than double and the rest is history. 

Recent times drew me back to that day. Our just completed townhouse development at Baker St Lilydale is SOLD out, 100% sold.  For Birkill Developments it’s great news and we are super happy but it’s even better news for all of the new home owners especially for 50% of them who are first home buyers.

Taking advantage of low interest rates, first home buyer grants, stamp duty concessions and great prices currently, these first home buyers for sure experienced the same apprehension, sweaty palms and racing heart that I did all those years ago.  It takes a great amount of guts and courage to take the step and make the choice to purchase your first home.  I am hugely proud and happy for these first home buyers, I know their courage and dedication will pay off.  Well done for deleting the negative and focusing on all that is right and good.  This mindset will see you winners in the future.
